Letters to the Editor: Microloans can prevent homelessness. Government leaders, are you listening? Microloans can and should save countless lives. There is no other way to ensure that every life is not lost because of homelessness when we could have all of our homeless working to create a new generation of permanent communities. We Need YOU Now!

Dear Editor:

Recently I ran into a homeless man outside my door; he was sitting on the curb. I asked him where he was coming from (he said work for the Salvation Army) and whether he had a place to live, if he had any money, if he needed help, and so on. He told me he was homeless. He told me he didn’t have a home and he lived on the streets. I thanked him for helping me and told him that he didn’t have to tell me if I would help him, that I could just walk him past the Salvation Army.

He looked at me and said “I don’t know. You’re going to have to help me find a home.”

I told him I would like to help him, but that I would have to go home for awhile. He said “no way, that would be too much time. I can’t do it. You just have to walk me past the SalvationArmy.”

I said that would be fine and left him in place and went about my business.
