  • Condition: This vintage Chinese cheongsam jewel tone auspicious symbols silk brocade qipao dress dates from the 1940s. It is made of pearl color background multicolored jewel tone silk damask weave brocade fabric with a woven auspicious symbols of good fortune design of crane birds, butterflies, bees, cherry blossoms, peony flowers, fans and teapots. This traditional Chinese cheongsam dress has a form fitting hourglass style, is a below the knee length, with a mandarin collar, short sleeves, side slit vents, a side zipper with snap closures along the neckline and is unlined. Manchu women early on wore a loose fitting one-piece dress which were called "qipao", transforming later to the more form fitting style "Mandarin Gown" popular in Shanghai during the 1920s-1940s becoming more influenced by Western fashion and fabrics. The dress measures 45 inches long, with a 34 inch chest, 26 inch waist, 36 inch hips, 14 1/2 inch back and a 12 inch neck. It is in good condition, with a newly added replaced s

    This vintage Chinese cheongsam jewel tone auspicious symbols silk brocade qipao dress dates from the 1940s. It is made of pearl color background multicolored jewel tone silk damask weave brocade fabric with a woven auspicious symbols of good fortune design of crane birds, butterflies, bees, cherry blossoms, peony flowers, fans and teapots. This traditional Chinese cheongsam dress has a form fitting hourglass style, is a below the knee length, with a mandarin collar, short sleeves, side slit vents, a side zipper with snap closures along the neckline and is unlined. Manchu women early on wore a loose fitting one-piece dress which were called "qipao", transforming later to the more form fitting style "Mandarin Gown" popular in Shanghai during the 1920s-1940s becoming more influenced by Western fashion and fabrics. It is in good condition, with a newly added replaced side zipper closure and is missing part of the inside collar lining backing (see close-up). This is truly a wonderful custom made piece of Chinese cheongsam wearable art!
